My 10-year-old little mixed breed was very playful - as is my 5-year-old Bichon.

I think a lot of their being playful is whether or not they have someone to play with -- and are encouraged to play. If I want to get down and play - my dogs (all ages) are ready to go. And - they play a lot together also.
