Walking off leash? In my neighborhood, there are lots of people with lots of different dogs. In NYC, we have leash laws that require dog owners to have their dogs leashed while in public at all times. Most people, including myself obey this rule. There is a lady in my neighborhood who owns the cutest little yorkie girl named Precious and Nikko and I were fortunate enough to meet her while her dog walker was out with her. Precious does not walk on a leash. She is about 4 pounds, and very well trained because even off leash she sticks close to her walker but I was disturbed by this. There are lots of big dogs around our way, pit bulls, rottweilers, labs and pinschers. I would not trust my dog's safety around them. Granted Precious doesn't wander off too far, I still think it is unsafe, unwise (and not to mention illegal) for her to be off leash. I didn't question the dog walker about this but I casually mentioned how well trained she was off leash and the walker said "yeah she hates leashes so she doesn't wander too far because she knows we'll put it on her." Am I wrong to be disturbed by this? I mean in a perfect world, all dogs should roam free but we live in the city and there are many dangers around for tiny dogs. Maybe I should have said something...
