We have done so in the past (with other females) and nothing ever happend...it just seems that radiation isn't good. What are all of your thoughts? What do you do? X-ray or Ultra-sound??
speaking from a vet tech's point of view x-rays are easier on the dog. It takes 5 seconds to lie still and then its done. Its quicker and you'll get the results in 1 minute. The dog doesn't get stressed out unless she doesn't like lying on her side at all. For an ultrasound the mother has to have a full bladder and lie on her back for at least 10 minutes all while some guy is pushing on her belly with a probe. This probably will make her uncomfortable and pee all over . Its not easy having someone push on your belly when you really really have to pee. Ask anyone who's had a baby. I would go with an x-ray. The amount of radiation that the mom and pups get is very minimal. I've probably had more radiation from taking constant x-rays then your momma dog will get from one little x-ray. no problems to the litter have ever been reported from x-rays. its usually easier to count the skulls and spines on the x-ray then it is to count bodies in an ultra sound.
