Is that the bar at the bottom left of the screen, just to the right of the Start Button or the group of weird icons at the bottom right of the screen? If it's bottom right, that is just showing you what applications your computer is running and a few other bits and pieces. No need to worry unduly either way, it's quite difficult to "break" the darn computer and there will always be someone who can talk you through repairing it or repair it for you if you do something err... completely silly.
But it usually helps if there is something visible on the screen when repairing it
The weather here has been sunny all day. I would say it has been swelteringly hot at 30 degrees, too, but some of you live in parts of the US that make that seem like balmy or even chilly, so then I would make myself look... err completely silly
