The Microsoft Updates download themselves onto your computer when you are online sometimes, but they do not automatically install at that time. When you come to close down the computer after they have downloaded you *should* be given the option (on the turn-off button) to install now or automatically when you next start the computer up. Choice is yours - makes no difference - you will get the updates anyhooooo!
To butt-in on your conversation with mustangbee, a computer forum would be a good idea, but you may have to be prepared for as many differing and equally as strong opinions as I have just read on the tail docking thread.
