I know what you mean. Times are not the same as the good-ole days... sigh. I miss the good-ole days where we used to play without parental supervision!

Look at your situation this way. The dog couldn't have roamed too far. If the owners are caring people, they will call ALL the shelters to see if she's there. If they are uncaring people the dog will go to a better home either through the shelter's adoption or by a rescue group.

You did the right thing! I did and would again too.
