I think it's rude. Would I go up to a stranger's 100-pound lab and pick him up? The person would probably whack me over the head with a stick.

But it's hard for me to enforce it. I was walking the boys today, and Jack was lagging behind. I watched a little girl walk up to him and pick him up. My instinct was to shout at her not to do it, but I walked over and politely asked her to put him down because he has a bad leg.

It's a tough call, but what are you going to do?
