As you would suspect, a good knowledge of the size of ancestors (not just mom & dad) is a big help, but there are BIG babies from average families and there are TINY babies from average families. They may not be the rule, but they happen. I'm hoping family history and the weight charts prove true, because I'd love for Bailey to wind up between 5 & 6 pounds - but I'm not counting on it. |
Weight charts are a good guide but don't use it as gospel. They are compiled by the author from their line of yorkies. I have found they don't hold true, or even come close in most cases. Knowing the ancestors size is a help, but don't count on that either. Unless you are psychic, there is no true guide to predict a yorkies weight. One can only make a guess, just as you can not predict how tall an infant might be as an adult.
