The needle is a little big, the microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. You can always wait, for the younger Yorkies for when they get fixed to have the microchip put in. I have seen quite a few dogs have it put in, it didn't appear to be too painfulll, but its different with every dog, some cry when they get their shots and some don't even notice.
