Bitches look for a private place, especially a first time mom..she does not know why she is feeling so odd and the pain may scare her until she sees the pup..they usually put 2 and 2 together and are okay.. and many will hide. A pen is very valubale in these cases and I don't know what I would do if mine were not pen trained for times like this...you want to watch for contractions and it is hard when they are under the bed..LOL She could push for an hour and you will not know.
