Please be careful when searching for a breeder Hi everyone. I wanted to share my recent experience with you all just as a heads up on what's going on out here when it comes to our yorkie babies. So as not to get this site into trouble, I will not name the breeder directly but I will say where she is located.
I recently placed an ad on the internet for the sale of a yorkie male that I have. I myself am not a breeder. I just made the decision that I'd like to have only females as my pets. I posted his picture and gave his size (under 3 lbs at 1 year of age). Needless to say, I received over 50 responses for him. I began responding and one particular lady caught my attention. She seemed very kind and explained that she really wanted a tiny yorkie because she currently owned a tiny girl. She explained that she was concerned with a larger yorkie because of her girl's size. Well, this story fit with me because I too have a tiny girl and upon replacing my male with another female, wanted to make sure I didn't get one that would be too large for her to safely play with. So I exchanged phone numbers with her and she and I began speaking over the phone.
Before making any commitments, I began to interview the woman. I asked her about small children, where my baby would be kept and the number one question was she a breeder. She said no and had good answers for all of my other numerous questions. She told me all she wanted was another tiny yorkie to love and how wonderful she is to her current little girl. She even sent me a picture of her to show me how well kept she was. We continued to chat via email and the phone about my dog but something just wasn't sitting well with me but I didn't know what.
Well during our conversation, one problem arose. The lady was in OK and I am in Maryland so I was now faced with the dilemma of shipping my baby. I really didn't like the idea. I contacted the airlines to discuss how live animals were handled and I was trying to get comfortable with the situation. However, something inside was telling me not to do this. Not just on the shipping but to not deal with this person. Mind you, she was an older lady, very nice and as I felt was very concerned with my baby's welfare. But as I'm sure you ladies here know, as women we have a special gift of a 6th sense and we know when something just isn't right.
So in listening to my special gift, I told the woman that I was sorry but I wasn't going to sell her my dog but I didn't leave it just like that. I felt bad for her as she started explaining that she had been looking for a dog like my guy for over a year and how she had been taken by many bad breeders. She said she had driven hours away from home only to be mislead by breeders advertising one dog and selling another. I felt for her. So I decided to go onto a particular breeder’s website which allowed me to put in her zip code and pull up yorkie breeders in her area (I didn't tell her that I was doing this). Well guess whose ad showed up big and bold at the top of the page? HERS!!!! I was floored. I called my husband as well as a good friend of mine that breeds yorkies and told them what happened. All of us were just stunned. After I had told this woman that I knew she was a breeder, she had the nerve to email me back and say that "as God as her witness, she was not a breeder." So I went a step further and had someone call her to ask about puppies. The very same woman proceeded to give information on her next litter and even said how she had a female ready to come into heat soon. Then I was really mad so that's what brought me here. I just wanted all of you who are looking for babies or even selling babies to be very careful. Go off of referrals as much as you can. I know that is sometimes easier said than done but please, be careful. Maybe we can start something here on this site where we can mention our breeders that we like (can't be any harm in that) or maybe have people who are looking for breeders, come here and post who they are considering.
It wasn't just that this woman was a breeder that upset me. It was that she lied which left me unable to believe anything that she said with regards to his well-being. If she had told me the truth about her intensions, at least I could have asked additional questions. But because she lied, nothing that she said means anything to me now. All reading this, please be very careful with who you are dealing with. If this woman would lie on God, she'd do anything! |
