I thought nuetering was cheaper than spaying. With the pre-op blood work and the surgery/overnight stay, Sissy's spaying was $250.

Can't speak with authority since I have a female, but I hear belly bands are a good way to keep boys from marking in the house. Perhaps someone else with a boy can give you further advice.
