I have no idea why people get upset with vets not being "experts on every breed of dog" ..... after all, aren't there some 160 or more different registered breeds. They aren't AKC judges. The are docors who specialize in the medical treatment of animals.
My own vet has not been around a lot of different breeds very much and is the first one to admit that she learns something every day about many of them (from their owners). I'm not talking about learning more about their diseases and how to treat them --- but rather about the different breeds, themselves, etc. She told me personally that there are many breeds that she has never seen in her office.
So - if your vet isn't a "Yorkie expert" --- you can change vets until you find one -- but really, what you should be looking for is a veternarian that is very good about taking care of and treating the many disease that our animals suffer from as well as the other care they need ----regardless of their breed.
And - if you vet says something that you don't think is true about a Yorkie - share what you know with him/her. There is a lot that our vets can learn from us - after all, we are the ones who have little Yorkies for pets - which gives us the opportunity to know more about them than most people know.
