There are diff. degrees of LP. I had a schnauzer growing up that started limping (skipping) at around 1 year of age. She never had surgery and lived to be 13 years old. We had to put her down due to old age. Never once did the LP affect her so much that the surgery was even an option that the vet would give us. It really is a case to case decision and if it was me I would get a 2nd opinion before putting her in surgery. Of course if the 2nd vet finds the same thing I would for sure go with the first since the pet store would cover it!!
