I've had my Yorkie for seven years now and not until this year could we trust him outside without a rope by himself. First, many factors come into play. He listens when he knows when he is in trouble. If he takes after a rabit, he'll case it, but if we yell at him and he knows we know we mean it, he'll turn around and come back. However, when we do let him go outside without a rope we always keep an eye on him from the inside. The second thing is this was never possible until after our other dog died last summer. Bosco, the yorkie, always felt the need to chase and explore when Duke, the other dog, was around. So, if you have other dogs, or dogs in the neighborhood it might not be possible. A lot of factors come into to play and you know your dog best, you'll know when he can start to be trusted. |
