At the time I got him I had no idea what a Yorkie puppy should look like. He was 5 1/2 lbs at 12 weeks old and the breeder told me he was "done growing". He was short legged, had a long body, his huge ears were hopelessly down (she said they'd go up), his nose was long. He was anything but "right" according to the standard, but I absolutely LOVED him. I don't think it is right for breeders to lie. My vet took one look at Tobey and said if I wanted a Yorkie to BRING HIM BACK! But my heart was already tied with his... So later we got a second one. This time we did our research. Pepper is a wonderful dog, but he is 9 1/2 lbs. According to the chart, according to triple 8 weeks, and double 12 weeks he should have been 6 1/2 lbs. He never quit growing. At a year old we think he is done. I think some breeders are not being honest when they say the mother is 5lbs and dad is 3lbs. I really wish I would have had the courage with this third puppy to ask the breeder to put the mom and dad on a scale in front of me! I'm sorry, but this mother doesn't look like 7lbs to me. But I love the puppy! She was 1 lb 14 oz last time I visited and she was 8 weeks old. Who knows how she'll turn out. I'm prepared to love her whatever the size, but I sure do wish breeders would be a little more careful about the quality of dogs they are breeding. I wish I could be sure they were being honest. I don't like to challenge a person's integrity, I like to believe what I'm told! As to the "chart" - I'm thankful for it. I fully realize it is intended for her dogs and that it is only a guide, but I rather like it. I think it is going to be fun to see how my newest puppy will follow the chart! I just hope she fits the standard this time! Smiles to all!!!~ |
well I for one, think some breeders that have a mother and dad on the premises yet their not always the pups parents but show them as the parents if they want to sell a puppy as staying small, especially after 2 months you find out they DO have a kennel (they said they didnt have) way out somewhere on their land which is no where in sight of the house. They know your gonna pretty much go but their size if your ignorant like I was when I got Kizzy. I thought she was such a nice nice lady (and she might be) but I really have to wonder about her being so honest now. the mother of Kizzy barely weighed 5 lbs and the dad about 4 1/2. Actually now that I see the weights and sizes of other dogs I really think these two dogs might have weighed more. Kizzy turned 4 months old today and weighed 5.6 the first time and then she weighed her again and it said 6.2 today at the vet altho she weighs only 5 lbs on my scales which doesnt show ounces. But she also weighed 5 on mine 3 weeks ago and 5.2 on the vets. She still weighs 5 on mine so i'm thinking the 5.6 was the accurate weight. She doesnt seem to have grown any since she was at the vet 3 weeks ago that you can see or feel. But she still looks smaller than either of her parents I was shown. Anyway, the vet said he dont think she will grow much more in height if any but she might fill out more. She eats really good and eats any kind of dog food or treats I give her. she isnt picky. So i'm surprised she dont weight 10 lbs. I just feel like I should see about 300 bucks in change for the 800 I spent to get her because of what the lady told me when she thought I was gonna buy the other one which was a tiny bit bigger for 500. lol . we live and learn.
But gotta admit, I still love kizzy and she isnt big at all to me.
