I don't think its life and death for them to have a couple fleas. You don't want them infested with fleas or anything. I believe(could be worng correct me if I am) that the dog can get sick over a long period with lots of fleas and ticks. And I'm sure its not comfortable and very irritating to have fleas. I don't know if they will give your little pup anything yet or not, but the vet will let you know.
You probably wouldn't want the fleas all over your house either. Just don't freak out though, if a dog goes outside chances are pretty good that it will get a flea or two in its lifetime.
