Hi,
I don't know if anyone remembers me and my sweet Sophie, but this was the site that I turned to when I needed to educate myself about Yorkies after I got Sophie.
Sophie is 1 1/2 yrs. old now and I just love her to death. Here is the part that may make me seem like a bad Yorkie mommy, but I promise I am not....
I have not had her umbilical hernia fixed. The vet said they could fix it when they do the spay. The hernia was very small at first, but it "bubbled" out quickly and has stayed the same for several months now. I know that I need to take her in, but I have this fear that she will not make it through surgery. Common sense tells me she will, but it is my fear that has kept me from picking up the phone to schedule it.
She is not in any pain from it at all and is acting the same as any other day. I know that is the reason I allowed myself to keep putting it off. The only reason I am more concerned now is that I leave for vacation on Saturday and I worry that something could get worse while I am away.
I am going to call my vet and ask them what I should do and obviously I will take her to the vet tomorrow if need be for them to check it out in person.
I feel just AWFUL and so guilty that I have not taken care of this for her sooner.
Honestly, I am just too scared to lose her.
Has anyone else put off umbilical surgery for a while...was it o.k.? I have read TONS about it and it obviously isn't life threatening at this time. I don't know if this is the kind that can become so or not though. I guess no one really does and that is why it needs to be fixed. I just wish I hadn't let my fear keep me from doing it already.
(funny thing, Sophia is in my lap right now, and you know how our dogs can tell if we are sad? well suddenly she is acting all perky and playful like she is trying to make me feel better. Sweet little thing.)
