Topher's head hair is slowly growing, so he has what I call his 'bangs' which is the hair just above the eyes which isn't quite long enough yet to get in the topknot. My groomer uses mousse or gel to help hold those hairs in place, so that's what I do. It holds for a while, but not the whole day usually.
I went to the pharmacy and bought the tiny clear elastics and they hold the topknot in great.
Topher fussed a bit the first couple of times I put it in, but it really didn't take long for him to get comfy with it. Now, every morning, he sits good as gold on the table for me while I brush out his head...he loves it now. He's 7.5 months and I only started doing it daily about 3 weeks ago.
