Tinka is crate trained - never goes in her crate. I do get so tired of standing outside waiting for her to poop. She almost always pees right away outside then runs to the door trying to convince me she's done. Sometimes she will poop after a few frantic circles - other times she will just sit and stare at me!
She is almost 6 months old and I have had many other kinds of dogs and never had this much trouble with any of them. I'm using the bells on the door, too, although she really hasn't caught onto that yet.
It's good to know it CAN work and to hear some success stories.
