I've had both dogs and cats forever - and have often brought a new kitten or puppy into my home.

I had one cat that was fast freinds with two of my dogs. I mean they played, jumped on one another, and chased each other around the house constantly.

My other cat basically ignores - but tolerates - the dogs. And - they pay very little attention to the her.

I think what is happening with your cat and dog is about what I'd expect. To some extent, they will have to work things out for themselves. But, for a while, I would discourage the pup from bothering or chasing the cat - about the time he gets scratched on his nose, etc., he'll learn that cats aren't "toys" and will learn to respect and stay out of the cat's way on his own.

Again - I would discourage him from chasing and bothering the cat. Someone needs to take the cat's side...... I don't think it's fair to the cat to expect him to have to put up with this.

Before long, they will become friends or more likely just learn to tolerate one another.

Good luck!
