One of my best friend's husband is an opthalmologist (an eye specialist/surgeon). She woke up one morning and one of her eyes was completely red (all of the white part). Her husband wasn't too upset about it - and had her just wait until it went away on its own....which it "finally" did. (She had experienced a broken blood vessel or some such thing...)
