I doubt that your second dog being a male or female will make much difference. I have always had a mixture of both - and their individual personalities have always been more important than their gender. Either or both can get along very well.

You may be surprised to find your little Yorkie ending up ruling the roost rather than the bigger dog. My little Yorkie is totally in charge of my 24-pound Bichon.. However, neither of mine have a dominant nature. They are both somewhat shy, laid back, and gentle.

If you do get a GS pup - the only thing I would be concerned about is the puppy energy and behavior that the GS will have for a while. His playful puppy behavior and his "teething stage" will be a little awsome for another dog that is so much smaller. (These little GS guys can be a handful for even us adult people at times.) Be sure and protect your little guy during these first stages, and I'm sure they can grow to become fast friends.
