If you know that she has a high white blood count, then it would seem that her milk would be full of bacteria - so no matter how tempting I wouldn't put them back with Mom. Did the vet even mention putting the pups on antibiotics since they had been nursing?

I hate weekends, especially long holiday weekends - it sounds like your vet trip was a wasted effort. You still don't have the answers you need.

What about putting the Mom in a baby one piece t-shirt that snaps at the bottom to prevent them from nursing? That way Mom could still clean them and such. Never have tried it, but it's the only thing I can think of that might calm her down. I have one female in heat now in diapers and an unneutered male in a belly band. If I separate them they both go crazy, but seem happy together even if they can't do what they want to do!
