Default Rottweiler charged our little Max

Fast Eddie....we were walking the beach in Galveston yesterday, I had Max on a long leash so that he could explore yet be safely retrieved, if needed. An unleashed Rottweiler came charging out of the dunes and headed straight for Max. I am sure that he would have been killed. Max is tiny, submissive and completely helpless. I quickly placed him under my shirt and was ready to drop and roll on top of him. I was about 6 feet from a large trash can and I was able to use it as a barrier between me and the dog. Finally the owner was able to restrain the dog. We had a rather heated "discussion" about allowing an 90 lb dog to roam the beach...while I had a tiny 5 lb yorkie on a leash. I can't believe the irresponsibility of dog owners sometimes. I was shaking so bad and so angry that I could have cheerfully choked her and her dog. I went back today...and had a walking stick, spray and an umbrella (A vet told me that opening and closing an umbrella would confuse and protect a person from the attacking dog) I haven't tested that theory yet. Anyway it was a very terrifying situation. I am so sorry to read about the yorkie death from the Akita...I am sure that Max would have met the same fate without my intervention.
