OK, not a Yorkie story, but a training story from years ago..... Had a Borzoi, Fanci Fannie, I rescued and was fostering. (Russian Wolfhound, a large dog. Imagine a greyhound with long wavy hair, a humped back and about 50-75 pounds bigger.)
Always train, socialize and evaluate every dog. So I take her across the street to the park so I can do all three at once. I put her on the lead, and she went to the park ok, and then realized that lead wasn't coming off. So she started screaming. Moaning. Whining. LOUDLY. Kids came over, walkers stopped and stared, people literally came out of their houses. She played for the audience, stumbled a few steps, then fell over. Then screamed some more. I couldn't get her to stop, except when she checked to make sure she was being watched. OMG!!! OK, it's funny now, but then??? Had a couple people come over ready to horse whip me for trying to teach the dog to heel and stay. Eventually got the beast back home. Longest 20 minutes of my life. (After that, started training w/ treats. Any theatrics, no treats!) |
