You are in a tough spot. I can understand how you must feel. I would honestly opt to go but only if you can be with him for a long period of time. I think sometimes in animals just like humans, their chances of recovery increase when they have something to look forward to, or something that makes them happy. I bet he would be so happy to see you. I would go.
