if she's housebroke then free feeding all day is ok. If she's having accidents then you want to put her on a schedule so you can expect poop 20 minutes after eating. you can either split the amount of food into 2 feedings a day or just do one feeding in either the morning or the evening. an older dog really only needs to eat once daily but if she's extra small she might do better with the two feedings. You can usually go by the amount posted on teh back of the bag as a ground rule for feeding. if you notice she's losing or gaining weight you can adjust the amount alittle. or as your vet.
