A a mother and step mother, I can promise you one thing. If you are the one to make her mind and follow the rules, she will one day love you for it. Just mix it in with love and affection, but make her mind! I suggest writing the rules out with your husband ahead of time. I also like the reward system for good behaviour.

At seven, she should still have a bedtime, a few daily chores (making her bed, putting away her toys, etc.), and behaviour guidelines. She will be a much happier child in the long run! JMHO.

Remind your husband that you are not the maid, and you will not let a seven year old child run your household. A seven year old shouldn't have that much responsibility!

Congratulations on the new puppy! What are you going to name it?
