You might be describing anal glands. A dog has two in his anus. They can become impacted and infected. Generally, a dog with consistent bowel movements will excrete the "fluid" on his own. Some dogs need to have their's manually expressed. Some people do this on their own, but you can cause the sac to rupture if you do not know what you are doing or it is clogged. A groomer routinely does this and a vet will show you how to. Mine have never needed it so I have never done it, but many do it on a routine basis. |
