Welcome! I had a yorkie named Gracie before Cali!
I never use a collar because of the collapsed trachea problems. My Gracie died at 6 1/2 from complications of a collapsed trachea. Get a harness. Several people on here sell them. I just bought one for Chattiesmom and love it.
Cali had kennel cough for 3 months even after 3 rounds of antibiotics but some clear up in a week or too. Just keep an eye on it. If she seems worse take her in to the vet.
Each dog is different but once she is older and trained she should be able to hold it for 6-8 hours.
