I am in the same boat. I live in El Paso and have been looking for a while. If all you want to spend is $300, you may want to consider getting a Yorkie mix... like a Maltese/Yorkie or a Yorkie/Poodle. They tend to be closer to your price range. There are several breeders in Texas, so if you drive to pick up your puppy that will save you even more money. I have been checking local shelters as well. The cheapest Yorkies/Mixes that I have found in Texas are about $350-650, depending on male and female. But I am starting to learn that you get what you pay for. They aren't as pretty as the more expensive Yorkies. Just be careful because there are a lot of scams going on right now for Yorkies in that price range. I would insist on picking up your baby in person so that you can see the conditions in which the breeder keeps their Yorkies and you can see the parents! Good luck to you in your search!
