Could it be fungal? Lex has a small dry spot on his ear that looks a bit like that. A few people recommended using Tea Tree Oil (which comes in shampoos and also in just straight oil). I am going to get him some and try that on his ear. He hasn't lost hair like that so I am not sure what to tell you there. From what I have read online the tea tree oil is used to treat all sorts of skin disorders including ring worm.
