I have always registered my dogs (always AKC) .... But I got my little Yorkie, who can be registered, but I didn't even fill out the paperwork and send it in.
All I have ever done with any of my dog's registration papers is put them in a drawer and never look at them again.
My Yorkie is a pet - neutered and will never be shown. I really was no reason to register him. I know he could be, and I know he's a purebred, but why waste the money.
I guess I'm the "opposite of a snob." I could care less -- and I am positive that no one else cares either.
