I have been in yorkie rescue for a number of years and have seen this situation often. Just have your husband be loving towards him. He will especially need to lower his voice and watch his tone of voice. In time, when he learns he can trust your husband, he will most likely come around, depending on how badly he was abused. I fostered a little 3 pound yorkie for 2 years who had been so badly abused he was blind, had seizures, and had neurological damage. Just watching him go from a trembling, frightened little guy, to one who was completely at home in my house and even coming to me to rub him, was worth everything. When I lost him due to the uncontrollable seizures, just a few months ago, it was a sad day indeed, but at least I know that for the last years of his life he was loved and well cared for.
