Esme is pee pad trained. We didn't try the litter because I heard about puppies who had eaten the litter, or played in it. As for the pee pads, I kept her in a play pen when I could not watch her, with the pee pad on one side. She was in there WHENEVER I couldn't keep a close eye on her. When I took her out of the play pen I would put her on the pad, when she peed, I would reward her with a treat. I would put her back on the pad every 10 minutes or so. It was a lot of hard work, but she got the hang of it by 4 months. If she has an accident now, it is beside the pad. It seems she misses. Esme is now 6 months. Good Luck!
