I had 16 at one time,and yes they get sick and there are tons of medications you can buy at the pet store to treat them,do a google search there are a lot of sites that will help you with the symptoms the fish is showing, they even get consipated,,and swim sideways then, so ya go get the medicine,and about a day later,,, you see why he was sideways..
