I would do this and also tell the groomer how long you want the hair kept, an inch, 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch, etc... Also check your pup for matts that way you know for sure that he does not have any so the groomer can't shave him down and say that he was really matted ( I have seen this happen even to dogs who did not have matts).
