If you are not planning to show or breed the dog, it is not important to have a pedigree. |
If you bought a purebred dog even just for pet, registration papers should be provided. Having said that, however, I don't know what the policy in various countries of Europe might be.
It is also expected here in Canada if you are breeder in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club under their code of ethics that a pedigree is also provided to the new owner even if bought for pet. The breed club of which I am a member also expects their members to provide a pedigree as well as registration papers. It doesn't necessarily have to be an official pedigree from the Canadian Kennel Club although I would provide that if I sold one for show purposes.
A hand written pedigree that I provide as true when sold for pet goes with the puppy to the new owner.
