We also live in the country. Oscar is 5 pounds at 7 months of age. He always goes out on a leash, but if I want to let him romp, I go out with him. And let me tell you, we see a lot of shadows coming over us...the hawks! They seem to shy away from him if I am out there with him. I just make sure and stick close to him all the time. We also have owls, fox and coyotes...I don't let him go for a second...I just don't want to lose him. The hawk got a kitten our ours once...and it was really close to the house too...happens so fast you don't have time to react. Better safe than sorry...
