On the day that we picked up Toby, everything seemed fine. He was good in the car and played with the kids when we returned home. During the afternoon and evening he ate a few kibbles but not much. We crated him for the night. I was amazed that he didn't cry at all being his first night. In the morning I had to wake him up. He was lethargic, weak, and couldn't walk well. I had to phone the emergency vet and brought him to the hospital. When i brought him in the vet said he didn't know yet what was wrong with Toby, however, he was a very sick dog and may not make it. Two weeks prior to this we lost our first yorkie, Pebbles. This could not be happening. The vet phoned later in the afternoon and told me that Toby's blood sugar had dropped to nothing and he started to give him nutrical. We picked him up later that evening and what a difference in him. He was his lively self. I had no idea that this was something to watch out for as this was my second yorkie. I had never heard of hypoglamic shock. I wish I had known. it would have saved us a lot of heartache not to mention the hugh vet bill for after hours. The vet told me to at least always have on hand corn syrup in case it every happens again. It never has, thank god, but you should definitely be aware and prepared for this type of episode.
