I can only assume here...but it isn't so much the "quality" these days, but the breeder's "ego" that makes them feel their pups are worth a month's pay.
I once priced my babies much higher than they are now. Mainly because I was paying this same HIGH PRICE to aquire my adults to produce these puppies. Boy did I learn the hard way. I have since learned that there ARE ethical breeders out there who strive to produce a quality yorkie and offer them at a fair and reasonable price because they truly love the breed and only want their pups to be in loving homes as pet or with someone who intends to show.
Yes, there is a difference between pet and show prospect price. I have found that there are excellent show prospects out there for the same price as some are charging for pet.
On a last note, ALL yorkies are priceless! But whether it be $500 or $10,000 we must all first pay the pauper.
