I really doubt that vet specialists make more than our specialists. I've worked in the medical profession for more than 35 years and am well aware of medical costs.

I can assure you though that it costs a vet nearly as much to admistered care to our animals as it does our doctors to take care of us. They have the same expenses - offices, lights, electricity, employees, technicians, x-ray machines, other equipment and medical tools, maintenance, malpractice insurance, medical fees, licenses, dues, etc. etc.

I find vet costs to be less than what our doctors charge, but not as much less as most of us wish they were.

My pup had a torn cruciate ligament repair (surgery). It cost $850. It would cost several thousand for a person.

Another dog went to the ER vet - had a lot of medical care and stayed overnight. Cost $450. If it had been one of us who went to the ER with this same problem, we would have been hospitalized and our bill would probably have been $6000 to $8000 - easily more.

Vet bills are high.... but sometimes, our little guys have very serious problems.......
