We used to raise American Bulldogs. Our contract stated that we guaranteed the pup against genetic defects for 2 years if the dog had not been bred. We would replace the pup if the other dog being replaced was either returned or spayed/neutered. We never wanted to rob a family of a beloved pet just because something went stupid with their health. Thank goodness our of our one litter we raised, we did not have to replace any pups. I think the best thing for your breeder to do would be to let you keep Sophie since you are having her spayed. If you don't want another pup, she should pay for the cost of the surgery up to the price she would have gotten for that pup. If she gives you a pup, she is going to be out the money for the pup anyway...might as well pay for the surgery. I hope you have something in writing, but you should not have to defer to that. She should offer to do the right thing. Good luck! |
