You might also consider a rescue dog. The adoption fees are much less than that, anywhere from $100-300 usually. Many rescue dogs have special needs or health problems or are traumatized in some way but there are a LOT of very healthy and happy young Yorkies for adoption too.

United Yorkie Rescue is where I got Kirby from (he's a Yorkie mix, but most of their rescues are purebreed). They are a GREAT organization and will do their best to match you to the type of dog you want i.e. young, healthy, minimal trauma etc... or if you are willing to adopt a dog with special needs they can help you with that too, either way their goal is to match dogs with owners that want them and will give them the best home.

They are a national network and should have many Yorkies in your local area for adoption. See the link in my signature if you are interested. I went the rescue route just becasue I found it hard to purchase from a breeder when there are so many animals out there needing a good home and facing euthanasia if not adopted.
