I think our pups usually look better when they go to the groomer ---- BUT that doesn't mean we can't learn to do a "good enough job." I have two dogs and for me, $70 or so every six weeks or two months is a lot of money - just for grooming. So, I do both. I take them to the groomer occasionally and cut them myself also.

Remember that "hair grows" and that you will get better with practice. Don't expect your first haircuts to look like a professional did them.

*** I rarely use the clippers. I mainly do a "scissors cut." But a lot of people prefer clippers for many areas.

The face is the hardest part for me to do. Not, because it's difficult, but because my pup is a wiggleworm and won't hold still if I'm near his face/eyes, etc.

You'll need to know how you want to cut him. Take pictures of him when he has been groomed the way you want to cut him. Or - get some pictures off YT....they are a lot of great ones here.

Good luck - "Practice makes perfect" --- well - maybe not perfect, but at least acceptable.
