I am having the same problem. I think she is afraid of the dark because she barks then the most. At nothing at all. Also, having two dogs, they seem to take turns. Sometimes when I fuss one of them jumps on the barking one as if to say shoosh. I have tried the penny can, I have read the Dog Whisper book and tried the laying her down and all but nothing. I hiss and that works sometimes. I have been trying to socialize them more and taking them on walks. That kinda sucks as we live in Africa and it is not a nice place. Lots of guard dogs, so the "kids" want to bark at all othem. I yank on the leash lightly and say no all the time. Plus as hyper as they are (her) the book said to walk the heck out of them. All of this may help. It helps my lazy butt too.
