HunnieBunnie - I'm sure they'll probably do fine. It certainly has always taken a couple weeks for any new pet to find his spot in my house. But, it has never failed to happen and my pets have always become fast friends.
Since all dogs are so very different -- I think the first thing you need to do is see how they are going to get along by themselves. You may or may not have any problems from the start.
If you have a puppy (like I do) -- you may have to protect the other dog from the puppy's constant chasing, jumping on, and biting. My new little 8-week old Yorkie made my 21-pound, 4-year-old Bichon's life hell from the first day on. He just wouldn't leave the Bichon alone for a minute. So - I had to find times and places where the Bichon could rest and relax and at times just be with me ----without the "monster pup" around.
They are great friends now. But, the pup still likes to play much much more than my other dog - and I still help him get a break once in a while.
Good luck - hopefully, you'll start out with no real problems. Whether you do or not, these two dogs should become good friends before long.
