I also wait until at least 6 months to give the rabies, but my dogs are not exposed to other dogs in training classes, boarding, etc.
The reason you don't want to give a vaccine under anesthesia is because if they have a reaction and go into shock (not because of the anesthesia, but the dog needs to be awake so you will know if something goes wrong).
Make sure your vet uses isoflurane gas for the anesthesia and have pre-op blood tests done. Your baby is so small I would make sure he is 100% before any surgery - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
About the diarrhea (actually sounds more like soft stools than diarrhea, diarrhea is frequent), if no other symptoms are present, I would put him on chicken and rice, and if it isn't gone within 24 hours I would take him in to the vet. |
