Sadly enough people get so caught up in wanting a dog and maybe not being able to afford a lot of money that they get caught that way. A young lady on another board that I am one was desperate and almost got caught by someone that was in FL. She was so happy to be able to get a pup (for $300) that she was ready to send it and everyone was able to talk her down from the ledge.
It's hard when you want one and can't afford to pay some of the asking prices out there for a pet, plus you run into breeders that dont' want to sell you because you have children (that was something I personally ran into) so I guess people get desperate.
